Akyaka Azmak river Boat Tour For our first trip of 2024, we took a boat tour on the Azmak River, the most popular spot in Akyaka. A boat trip on this crystal-clear river is a must-do when visiting Akyaka. The Azmak River is a crystal-clear. You’ll agree with me once you watch my video. A Pristine River Escape: Azmak River in Akyaka

At first glance, the Azmak River reminded me of the kind of pristine rivers you only see in National Geographic documentaries. It’s a feast for the eyes! Imagine a shimmering river flowing swiftly, with ducks and geese gliding, floating, and paddling on its surface. The crystal-clear water allows you to see pebbles and vegetation on the riverbed.

The river’s source is in the nearby mountains, and it eventually flows into the Gulf of Gokova. On a sizzling summer day, who wouldn’t want to dip their feet or dive into this cool, clean water?

A Boat Trip Adventure

As you stroll along the river, you’ll see people swimming, relaxing on picnic chairs, or sunbathing. It took us about half an hour to reach the boat station near the harbor, where we embarked on a boat trip. During the trip, we spotted some unique bird species and stopped at a deep part known as the “aquarium” to search for fish. I saw two large fish but didn’t spot any colorful ones. The boat trip cost 30 TL per person, and it’s best to sit near the edge of the boat for an unobstructed view.

Dining and Shopping

The riverbank is lined with restaurants, cafes, and hotels. Some restaurants are located on piers, offering the opportunity to dine or drink while dipping your feet in the water. We chose Azmak Restaurant and ordered Kofte and Sac Kavurma. The food was average, and the prices were similar to other restaurants in the area. The restaurant was clean, but the staff didn’t seem very friendly. We enjoyed our lunch with stunning views of the river, and sometimes ducks even approached us.

Near the harbor, you’ll find juice bars, cafes, restaurants, and stalls selling handicrafts. We tried cactus fruit (prickly pears) for the first time, and they were delicious.

On the beach of the Gulf, you can see people swimming and sunbathing. Akyaka harbor, with its array of palm trees, is a beautiful spot for a short walk and taking photos.

History and Culture

If you’re a history lover, don’t miss the İnişdibi rock tombs, located about a 10-minute drive from the river. The tombs are secured, but you can view them and take photos from outside the boundaries. Excavations are ongoing in the area, and it seems that the remnants of an ancient city will soon be unearthed.

I highly recommend visiting the Azmak River in Akyaka to all visitors to Marmaris. It’s a truly unforgettable experience.
